REDMOND, WA – Today, Washingtonians are mourning the loss of one of the state’s greatest Governors, Dan Evans. Governor Evans served for three terms and one session in the United States Senate was instrumental in advocating for the state’s higher education system and was a vociferous dissenter of the increasing partisan divide he witnessed while serving in Congress.

Let’s Go Washington founder, Brian Heywood, issued the following statement:

”Today, our state lost one of the finest leaders it’s ever seen. Governor Evans was the pinnacle of what it looked like to lead with integrity, passion and a true desire to uplift everyone in the state, regardless of their political bent. He made his disdain for the politicization of our world abundantly clear, but even after he stepped down from serving in Congress, he continued to serve his community, his state, and his country with dignity.

He was a fierce advocate for tax reform in a way that encouraged success in our state, and wasn’t a blanket tax on everything and everyone. Governor Evans proved that human decency and a person’s duty to provide for others could far outweigh the political affiliation they identified with. As we look ahead to the coming election, I stand in hopeful expectation that all Washingtonians can emulate the spirit of unity Governor Evans sought to pass on to the next generation of leaders.

What we are trying to accomplish isn’t partisan, Governor Evans knew that, and we can honor his legacy by encouraging that same spirit this November.
